FAQs

  • How do I care for gold filled jewelry?

    1. Avoid Water: Remove your gold-filled jewelry before swimming, bathing, or doing any water-based activities. It's crucial to safeguard your jewelry from contact with water to prevent the gold layer from eroding faster.

    2. Avoid Chemicals: Avoid exposing your gold-filled jewelry to harsh chemicals such as chlorine bleach, perfumes, or lotions as these may erode or tarnish the gold layer.

    3. Store Carefully: Store your gold-filled jewelry in a soft pouch or jewelry box to avoid scratches or contact with other jewelry pieces.

    4. Clean Regularly: Clean your gold-filled jewelry regularly with a gentle jewelry cleaning cloth to maintain its shine and prevent tarnishing. Don't use any harsh chemicals, water, or brushes that may cause damage.

  • How do I care for gold plated jewelry?

    1. Avoid Water: Remove your gold plated jewelry before taking a shower, swimming, or washing your hands. Moisture can cause the gold plating to erode faster, so it's essential to safeguard your jewelry from contact with water.

    2. Avoid Excessive Contact: Be mindful of how often your jewelry is rubbing against your skin or other surfaces. The more friction it experiences, the higher the rate of wear and tear on the gold plating.

    3. Store Carefully: When not wearing your gold plated jewelry, make sure you store it separately from other jewelry in a soft pouch or box.

    4. Gently Clean: To restore the shine of your gold plating, use a soft, non-abrasive jewelry cleaning cloth to gently wipe the surface of your jewelry. Do not use any harsh detergents, chemicals, toothpaste, or abrasive materials that may scratch or damage the gold plating.

    5. Re-plate: If necessary, you may re-plate your gold jewelry to restore its original luster. However, please note that re-plating is not a recommended care procedure to use frequently and can be an expensive option.

  • What is the difference between gold plated and gold filled?

Gold plated and gold filled are both jewelry-making processes that involve applying a layer of gold to a base metal. However, there is a significant difference between the two:

Gold plated jewelry has a thin layer of gold applied to its outer surface with electroplating. This means that only a small amount of gold covers the item, making it prone to wearing off over time, particularly with frequent use or exposure to water.

In comparison, gold filled jewelry involves a thicker layer of gold that is bonded to the base metal using heat and pressure, making it much more durable and long-lasting than gold plated pieces. Gold filled jewelry will retain its luster and beauty over time and is more resistant to tarnishing, making it a more practical investment in the long run.

Our pieces are made of gold filled and gold plated materials. All our hardware (closing rings) is 18k heavily gold plated.

Keep in mind that gold plated and gold filled jewelry over time will eventually wear down and require maintenance unlike solid gold jewelry.
